Family arrested over use of stolen credit card at multiple locations

Niagara Regional Police say a Port Colborne couple and their teenage son have been charged in a theft investigation involving the use of a stolen credit card at multiple locations across Niagara Region.

On March 31, 6 District (Port Colborne/ Wainfleet) uniform officers learned that a stolen credit card was fraudulently used from March 12 through March 25 at numerous businesses.

Investigating officers obtained security footage from the businesses and were able to identify three suspects, police said in a news release.

On May 6, police three people were arrested.

A 58-year-old man from Port Colborne who was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by Crime
  • Unauthorized use of credit card (9 counts)

A 45-year-old woman from Port Colborne who was arrested and charged with:

  • Unauthorized use of credit card (2 counts)

A 16-year-old male of Port Colborne who has been arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Unauthorized use of credit card (13 counts)

All three accused were released on undertakings with future court dates, police said.

Police said all three suspects' names are being withheld, noting police are prohibited from identifying the youth under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada. 

"The release of the identity of charged adults would lead to the identity of their son, a young person," police said.
