The Thorold Museum has announced the appointment of Malcolm Woodhouse, a previous Mayor of Thorold, as the new president of the museum's board of directors.

Woodhouse brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served on several boards and committees including both city, and regional council, the Beaverdams Methodist Church preservation committee, and the Protection Hose Company #1.

He has a strong background with more than 40 years in project management, government relations, and facilities management and has been actively involved in being a founding member of the Niagara Board of Trade and Commerce.

As the new president, Woodhouse will work closely with the board of directors and museum volunteers to focus on developing the museum's mission, and secure a permanent home for the museum and its collection, which has been donated by many Thorold families and their ancestors.

According to the board, securing a permanent space would allow them to act as proper guardians of the items that are the foundation of Thorold’s history.

Fire Station 1 on Towpath St. has been proposed as the site for the project, but the proposal has yet to be approved by city council.

The Thorold Museum is a significant cultural institution in Thorold and Woodhouse is excited to be taking on this new role.

"I am thrilled to serve as the new president of the board of directors for the Thorold Museum," Woodhouse said in a news release.

"The museum has a rich history and is a valuable asset to the City of Thorold. I am honoured to help shape its future and build upon its success."

The museum board of directors thanked past president Randy Barnes and his wife, Diane, for the countless hours of hard work, their dedication to excellence, and their unwavering commitment to the museum's vision and goals.

The groundwork they have laid for the museum will be the cornerstone of the continued work and remembered for years to come, the museum board said.

The museum volunteers and board of directors look forward to working with Woodhouse in this new capacity and are excited for the impact he will have on the future of the museum.
