It’s been a long time coming, but the city is ready to start construction of a new park in Port Robinson West.

The project was first approved during the 2022 City Budget Deliberations and now City Hall is looking to contract D & R Landscaping Group Inc. to complete the job.

Residents were invited to give their feedback on the proposal all the way back in 2023. According to the city's official website, it’s the intent to build three parks in total in the area.

This first park will be situated along Kottmeier Road and Vaughn Road and will be completed in two phases.

“The Phase 1 work includes site grading, base preparations, construction of new pedestrian walkways, footings, and hardscaping of surfaces for the proposed splash pad and playground equipment installation,” reads a City Hall report on the matter. “The completion of Phase 1 work is required in order for the splash pad and playground equipment to be installed.”

According to the plans for the park, the city is hoping to eventually install a basket ball court and soccer field, as well as an adult fitness area.

Phase 1 will cost the city a total of $258,261.22 and still needs to come before council at Tuesday’s city council meeting. A timeline for the project wasn’t shared.
