This weekend, the volunteer firefighters of Protection Hose Company No. 1 are holding their annual food drive for Community Care at Foodland on Pine Street.
“We try to do it every year,” Glenn Kempson tells ThoroldToday. “We’re collecting food from people coming out of Foodland, and they also sell $10 bags that people can purchase.”
The volunteer firefighters will also accept cash.
“We convert that into gift cards for Foodland or Tim Hortons or local businesses that Community Care can give out to people in need,” says Kempson.
The food drive figures into the volunteer firefighters’ mission to look out for the community.
“It's a Christmas food drive to help people during the holidays,” Kempson says.
The food drive is happening at Foodland on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunda, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
They will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items and cash. $10 prepackaged donation bags will also be available for purchase in the store.
