NEWS RELEASE
NIAGARA REGIONAL POLICE
*************************
On Monday April 8, a solar eclipse will move through eastern Canada.  The path of totality will pass through the Region of Niagara over the cities of Port Colborne, Fort Erie, and Niagara Falls.

A solar eclipse is a rare natural event that occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and Sun.  It is believed by experts that Niagara will be one of the top places in Canada to view the solar eclipse.

The Niagara Regional Police Service and our community partners will be communicating information in the four weeks leading up to April 8  that will assist residents and visitors to Niagara to safely enjoy the solar eclipse.

Indications are that thousands of visitors are coming to Niagara.  With the anticipated large number of visitors that will be travelling to Niagara emergency preparedness will be important.  Significant traffic congestion on local roads and highways around Niagara is anticipated.
