Jeff Burch will be heading back to Queen’s Park.

The NDP incumbent fought off six challengers, including Port Colborne Mayor Bill Steele (PC) and Liberal candidate Damien O’Brien.

Burch received 42.29 per cent of the vote. That means he collected 2,433 more votes than runner-up Steele who managed to get 37.27 per cent of the vote. Third runner-up, O'Brien, received 14.74 per cent of the vote.

Prior to the polls closing, Burch said that he wasn’t sure how the night would go, given the fact that his main challenger, Steele, didn’t participate in any local debates or deal with the media.

“It's a curious way to run a campaign,” Burch told ThoroldToday. “You can't run a campaign in secret. I always tell people it's like when you're applying for a job and your constituents are your boss. You have to show up to the job interview or you're not going to get hired.”

And that turned out to be true, as Burch snagged the job once again.

When it came to voter turnout, 49.23 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballot.
