Position Overview

The RPN will be assigned to Dr. Zufelt's practice in the Pediatrics Department. The RPN role is to provide nursing assessment, treatment, and patient teaching for patients referred for consultation and care to infants, children and adolescents. The RPN works closely with the pediatrician to assist and provide education support and health care to the families of their patients and answer any questions and address any concerns the family has regarding the child. The RPN will conduct medication reviews and basic mental health screenings independently, discussing findings with the providers and assisting with developmental and mental health intakes, as needed. The RPN will select, administer, and score various mental health, development and milestone screens and coordinate with local agencies and schools regarding patient care. The pediatric nurse plays a vital role on the interdisciplinary team, supporting child and youth mental health referrals to the Pediatric Department while also assisting in the management of pediatric medical conditions including both acute and chronic illnesses.

Required Qualifications
Education

  • Registered Practical Nurse with a valid Certificate of Registration with The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing

Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate may possess:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a clinical setting
  • Experience in the care of infant, children and adolescent patients
  • Experience in providing assessment, treatment, monitoring and evaluation of pediatric patients with a wide range of acute, chronic and mental health illnesses
  • Experience with mental health, development and milestone screening
  • Current CPR certification and AED competency

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent physical assessment skills regarding infants, children and adolescents
  • Experience & comfort in dealing with pediatric patients with acute, chronic and mental health illnesses
  • Demonstrated ability engaging pediatric patients and their families/caregivers using a collaborative approach by building relationships and trust
  • Demonstrated patient teaching skills for patients of all ages and their families
  • Knowledge and familiarity with ECG’s, echocardiograms and stress tests
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships
  • A solid track record of maintain privacy and confidentiality in the workplace
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated effort in living the values of GHC

Rate of Pay:
$26.97 – $29.17 (commensurate with experience)
