After Tuesday's dramatic spike of 21 new cases of COVID-19, Niagara Public Health reports 5 new cases of the infection in the region.

Currently, 80 active cases are present in Niagara, primarily in Niagara-on-the-Lake, followed by Niagara Falls and Lincoln.

Yesterday, the region's acting medical officer of health, Dr. Mustafa Hirji warned that the city of Niagara Falls is becoming a hotbed for the infection as 13 of yesterday's 21 cases were found in residents from that city.

On the provincial level, health authorities are reporting fewer than 100 new COVID-19 cases today for the first time in months.

The province's public health agency reported 76 new cases today, which is the lowest reported cases in a single day since March 22 for Ontario.

Of today's new cases across the province, 29 are individuals between the ages of 20 and 39 years old and another 25 are between the ages of 40 and 59 years old.
