DSBN reported another case of COVID-19 in one of its schools on Tuesday.

Lockview Public School in St Catharines is the latest in among the board’s schools to identify a positive case in an individual.

In recent weeks, a handful of schools have been forced to close down classrooms due to positive cases.

Quaker Road School in Welland has had over 10 cases, prompting at least 7 classrooms to be closed, and several staff and students instructed to isolate.

However, Public Health said on a media briefing Monday that they have no intentions of ordering a closure of the school.

“If we believe that a school can not operate safely, we would not allow them to operate,” said Dr. Mustafa Hirji, regional acting medical officer of health.

Hirji said the outbreak at Quaker Road has been identified among two clusters, and that the individuals at risk have been instructed to self-isolate.

“We do not want to deprive children the chance of in-person education,” said Hirji.
