Like other charitable organizations, COVID-19 closings have taken their toll on the Friends of Beaverdams Church.
And although they had to cancel this year’s popular annual yard sale, which sends bargain-seekers flocking to the Marlatts Road church yard each summer, the volunteer group has come up with a new way to raise funds for the historic lakeside church.
From July 20 through 24, 2020, browsers will be able to shop online for an assortment of 40-50 items—all in great condition, and arrange for curbside pickup in Beaverdams.
Need a new car vacuum that plugs into your car outlet, a solid wooden drop leaf table that seats six, or a portable sewing machine, all at super savings?
From new appliances to antiques, outdoor turkey fryers to patio furniture, this yard sale will also feature children’s items, a complete set of fine china, upscale artwork, lighting, sports equipment, and something for everyone, all at great prices.
All items will be sold “as is” and all sales will be final. All proceeds will help the Friends in their ongoing restoration of the iconic 1832 Beaverdams Church, which most recently has been brightened with brand new siding, and is scheduled to move indoors.
Once a spiritual, educational and community hub, the church is destined to resume that centuries-old role, while also offering a cultural centre for Thorold residents, at the completion of its renovation.
According to Friends President David Cowan, the project’s heritage engineering consultant, Mark Shoalts, has “outlined a course of action and philosophy for the interior restoration that will ensure our adherence to historical principals while providing a vital and useful performance and meeting space for the city of Thorold as well as other groups and educational institutions.”
