40 cases of Covid in Niagara over the weekend drives active cases above 100

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Niagara grew exponentially over the weekend as NRPH reported 111 active cases on Monday morning, prior to this week’s initial update on the pandemic.

The number is the result of 40 new infections confirmed over Saturday and Sunday.

St Catharines has 28 active cases, Niagara Falls 23, and Thorold 16.

Despite the increase, the number of hospitalized patients stayed at 2 according to Niagara Health. One of those cases is being treated in the ICU.

The death toll has stayed at 420, unchanged from last week.

There are currently 4 active outbreaks being tracked by Niagara Public Health, however none are located in health-care settings.’

63.4 percent of Niagara residents are now fully vaccinated.
