About 20 young fishing enthusiasts and their families were looking to land the big one last Saturday.
Generations of local families have participated in the Thorold Legion Conservation Group’s annual Kids’ Fishing Party, with this weekend’s event marking its 71st year, under sunny skies.
“For years, we’ve been doing this,” Tom Astley told ThoroldNews.
“I used to bring my son; now I’m bringing my grandkids.”
After soliciting contributions from business owners in the community, the Conservation Group awarded brand new bikes, as well as fishing rods, hats, a hockey bag and local restaurant gift cards to the best anglers and lucky draw winners of the day.
Every child who attended also received a large gift bag filled with prizes, and families were treated to free hot dogs and drinks at the Conservation Club following the fishing derby.
