After a year of relative quiet, the city’s planning department is hemorrhaging employees again.
Senior Planner Marc Davidson has been with the city for less than a year, but he is now gone again. It’s unclear as to the reasons for Davidson’s departure.
During the last city council meeting on September 10, Davidson was in the hot seat after signing off on a 15-storey development in downtown Thorold.
While councillors said they understood he was following directives from the province, they still voted to send the proposal back to the city’s planning department for a second look.
Last Thursday, on September 19, Davidson was part of a meeting of the Committee of Adjustment where his departure was announced.
“We like to wish him all the very best and we would like to thank him for all the hard work that he has done with the planning division for the city,” said Planning & Development Services Clerk Angela Nesbitt.
“I did want to address my gratitude to the committee,” said Davidson, in response. “You guys do a great job. Some things are not so easy but you handle them very well and I was really happy and always enjoyed this committee. Thank you for the kind words and if you’re ever in Oxford, look me up.”
“We got him as far as we could,” laughed committee chair John Theisen.
ThoroldToday reached out to City Hall for comment but did not hear back in time.
