The resignations continue at the Thorold planning department.
ThoroldToday has learned that senior planner Paul Klassen has exited City Hall, leaving the municipal planning department with only one full-time employee on its payroll.
Just last month, the manager of planning, Denise Landry, resigned to take a position with the Port Colborne city administration.
The exodus of planning employees comes amidst a series of controversies. In February, the city gave permission to developers to destroy a protected frog pond, and, more recently, a proposed development on Ormond Street has concerned neighbours up in arms.
Even though the city seems to be actively looking for new planners, it remains unclear how the planning department is supposed to function with just one employee.
ThoroldToday reached out to City Hall for comment, but a spokesperson said that they cannot speak to the employment status of their staff members, adding: "Our planning department is continuing to function efficiently under our Acting Director of Planning & Development Services."
