If you were planning to greet the fall with a drive-in cinema experience, you might be disappointed, after Can-View Drive-In in Fonthill announced it will be closing its gates early this season.

In a statement on the cinema's Facebook-page, the company said the main reason for the decision is because almost all of its senior staff has left to attend out-of-town universities.

"In past years we have had a few attend Brock or other local schools, but that is not the case this year," the statement said.

"There have been many tears shed around here this past week or so as many of the faces you have come to know said their goodbyes and headed out to start or continue their studies in different cities."

Apart from a thin release schedule with no major screenings except Addams Family 2, Can-View also said it is also anticipating a short-term spike in Covid-cases with the approaching cooler weather, with the risk of further restrictions coming into play.

"We opened this year amid great uncertainty and feel we did the best we could under the circumstances. I am immensely proud of every one of our staff members and we all appreciate the support of our customers during trying times such as these. We wish you all the best during our off-season and look forward to a hopefully more normal spring 2022," said the statement.

Can-View is the largest Drive-in movie theatre in Ontario.
