The Niagara Catholic District School Board has released a statement from its director, Camillo Cipriano, regarding a staff member arrested by the Niagara Regional Police this morning, Jan. 24.

The arrest came as a result of a police investigation into an alleged incident at St. Alfred Catholic Elementary School in 2024, the statement said, and the alleged incident was reported to Family and Children’s Services (FACS) by Niagara Catholic staff in accordance with Ministry of Education requirements.

“We are troubled by the nature of these charges. The individual was placed on leave at the start of an internal investigation. Niagara Catholic will continue to cooperate with Niagara Regional Police throughout their investigation,” the statement said. “As a Catholic community, we pray for everyone affected by this situation.”
