Members of all city volunteer committees rolled up their sleeves yesterday and waded into the less glamorous prep work needed before tackling the meat of their respective mandates.
A four-hour session, hosted at the Seniors’ Centre, saw members of the committees come together in a new initiative to discuss common goals and problems. The intent was to set standards throughout the city committees and establish a shared vision.
The session included introductions by individual members and committees. Included in the agenda was goal-setting, a review of meeting procedures, code of conduct, conflict of interest, health and safety training, and accessibility requirements.
The final module dealt with insurance and liability assumed by the City, committee and individuals. A presentation by Sara Runnalis, vice president of BFL insurance and Liability for Committee and Council concluded the days activities.
Committees in attendance included Age Friendly Committee, Allanburg Community Recreation Centre Board of Management, Darlene Ryan Port Robinson Community Centre Board of Management, Downtown Parking Committee, Heritage Thorold (LACAC), Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee, Lake Gibson Corridor Preservation Task Group, Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee, Thorold Active Transportation Advisory Committee,Thorold Downtown Facade Technical Advisory Committee, Thorold Public Library Board, Thorold Runway of Recognition Committee, Thorold Tourism Advisory Committee, Town and Gown Advisory Committee, Committee of Adjustment/Property Standards and the Thorold Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation.
