Still need to do some Christmas shopping? Thorold city council is making it easier to shop in Downtown Thorold by waiving parking fees on Parking Lot 2 for the rest of December.

Said Councillor Carmen DeRose at last week’s city council meeting, “I want to put a motion forward to my fellow councillors, in light of the last few years, the struggles that local businesses have faced. The motion is to waive parking fees for downtown parking.”

Replied Mayor Terry Ugulini, “It’s something we’ve done on a regular basis. I think we should do it right until the end of the year. I think we’ve done it that way in the past.”

Added Councillor Victoria Wilson, “I think it’s just a great idea to encourage people shopping locally in Downtown Thorold. I think that’s a great way to support our local businesses.”

The free parking is only valid on Parking Lot 2, which is situated on the corner of Albert Street West and Towpath Street, and will be in effect until the 31st of December.

Said Councillor Fred Neale, “Can we make sure that the machines are working when we do start it back up in January, because there’s been a couple tickets given out and from what I understand our meters were not working in the parking lots but they were given a ticket anyway. So if you will make sure those ticket meters are working properly too.”

“Yup,” replied Mayor Ugulini and the motion was unanimously approved by city council.
