1,837. That’s how many people voted online in the 2022 Thorold municipal and school board election.

The number represents 10.23 percent of eligible voters in Thorold, which is an uptick of more than two percent when it comes to voting before election day, compared to the last election.

“In the 2018 election, 1,124 individuals cast their ballot at an advanced poll (prior to Election Day), which represented 7.76% of the eligible electors at that time,” read a post on the City’s Facebook page.

This was the first time City Hall utilized online voting and the process wasn’t without a few hiccups.

In spite of City Hall’s insistence that the process was safe and secure, some councillors and residents still voiced concerns.

Online voting closed on Oct 22 and today, Thorold residents can head to the polls to vote in-person.
