City looking into street sign font size

In an effort to improve accessibility, City Hall staff is looking into increasing the font size on new and replacement municipal street signs

After a request from the Age-Friendly Committee, the city is looking into increasing the font size on municipal street signs.

"The Age Friendly Ad Hoc Advisory Committee has been actively looking for ways to make improvements on accessibility within the City of Thorold," reads the City Hall request. "One of the ways that has been discussed was to increase the font size on new and replacement municipal street signs, and to ensure that the font was all the same going forward."

The aim of the Thorold Age-Friendly Committee is to provide recommendations to the city regarding a strategy and action plan to elevate the profile, level of leadership, and engagement of seniors in the community

At last night's city council meeting, councillors unanimously voted to have City Hall look into the matter.

"It is recommended that staff prepare a report respecting the implications of such a change from the perspective of budget, accessibility and process of municipal street sign replacement," concludes the request.

A due date for the report has not yet been announced.
