The city is looking to make the intersection at Ormond St. and St. David St. E a little safer, by installing a four-way stop.
As ThoroldToday reported, the city’s Road Safety Committee thinks the intersection is highly dangerous.
“The cars go whizzing by very fast,” said committee member Donna Del Cueto, during a meeting in May. “Of course not all of them, but enough that it is a concern. There’s nothing slowing them down from the stop sign at Townline Road all the way up to the Tim [Hortons]. It goes downhill.”
The committee flagged the issue to City Hall, who brought the issue forward to council last week.
“The persistent issues faced by residents and pedestrians necessitate seeking Council’s approval for the new installation of an all-way stop and cross walk,” reads a report on the matter.
Manager of Engineering, Sean Dunsmore, was asked when the all-way stop would come into effect.
“That’s a tough one to answer,” he replied. “There’s quite a bit of line-painting associated with it. We’ll try to get it done before it gets too cold.”
The city is also set to adjust the sidewalks at the intersection, since this was another issue flagged by the Road Safety Committee.
The cost for new signage for the all-way stop and line painting for the new crosswalk is approximately $2,000.00.
Dunsmore said that the city is also working on installing speed bumps on Front Street.
