City to install three new all-way stops throughout Thorold

The brand new stops aim to calm traffic and will be located in downtown Thorold, Rolling Meadows, and Port Robinson

City Hall wants to make Thorold a safer place for pedestrians. That’s why they’re installing three new all-way stops throughout the city.

The brand new stops will be located at the intersection of Front St and McNamara St in downtown Thorold, at Sunset Wy and Miracle Wy in Rolling Meadows, and at Canby St and Hamilton Blvd in Port Robinson.

City Hall has taken the action after receiving several complaints about all three locations.

The stops in downtown Thorold and Port Robinson both came about after an extensive traffic study was completed.

A City Hall report seems to indicate that further traffic calming measures could be considered for Port Robinson going forward.

“Niagara Region is currently piloting the use of photo radar technology, however it is not yet available to the City of Thorold,” reads the report. “City Staff are currently working with Niagara Region to conduct a signal warrant analysis to identify whether a traffic light or roundabout is warranted at the intersection of Allanport Road, Chippawa Creek Road and the Canby Street intersection.”

The installation of all three all-way stops will cost a total of $4,500, with the money coming out of the 2024 Traffic Calming Program, included in the upcoming city budget.
