When the Thorold community arenas closed in late December due to the fast spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, many residents were left upset and without a place to skate.
Luckily, the City of Thorold, in partnership with Rolling Meadows Niagara, has announced it is opening a free outdoor ice rink at the end of January.
The outdoor rink, which is situated near the intersection of Barker Parkway and Honey Crisp Way in the Rolling Meadows subdivision, will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather conditions permitting. Every day, use of the rink will be restricted for hockey use from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
In a press release, the City of Thorold said that it is opening the free skating rink "to help promote (a) healthy lifestyle."
As always, COVID-19 health regulations will be in place, including the wearing of a mask or a face covering, and maintaining six feet of physical distance from anyone not part of your household.
