Downtown McDonald's 'an absolute go'

It's been quiet surrounding the plans for a McDonald's on the corner of Sullivan and Pine but lot owner Serge Carpino says the project is steadily moving along

Ever since local developer Serge Carpino announced his intent to bring a McDonald's to downtown Thorold, residents have been salivating for an update on the project.

Back in early February, city council approved the necessary zoning changes for the development, which triggered a McFlurry of reactions.

While some residents were excited to see the hamburger chain move into the downtown core, others flagged traffic concerns about the restaurant's location at the corner of Pine St. S and Sullivan Ave.

It’s been awfully quiet surrounding the project ever since, but Carpino assures hungry residents that the project is still moving full steam ahead.

"It’s an absolute go,” he tells ThoroldToday. “We’re probably sometime in August going to start with the site improvements.”

Carpino did not elaborate on what these improvements will entail.

Without a set timeline for the project, Thorold residents starved for a burger will have to wait a little while longer.
