The battle of Burliegh Hill saw another skirmish last night as the Thorold Blackhawks hosted the St. Catharines Falcons in Jr. B hockey action.
The Falcons managed one goal per period to skate away with a 3-1 win in a close match where they were never really in trouble. They outshot the Hawks 31-20 but the low score kept the home town fans hoping for a comeback.
It wasn’t to be though as it took until the last minute of the third period before the Hawks broke the shutout bid of St. Catharines goalie Dillon Lamarche,
Scoring for St. Catharines were Mike Masotti, Ethan Sims and Christian Girhiny, who also had an assist.
Trevor Neumann got Thorold on the board with assists from Nick Gidney and Brendan Charlton at 19:25 in the final frame.
St. Catharines sits in second place, behind Niagara Falls, in the Golden Horseshoe Conference while Thorold is in fifth with a healthy lead over sixth place Fort Erie.
Thorold heads back to St. Catharines tonight for a 7 p.m. game and then off until Thursday, Jan. 10 when they host Pelham.
