Familiar faces will lead NPCA board in 2025

Board, vice-chair unchanged as Metcalfe, Beattie back at helm

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority’s (NPCA) board of directors gave its current leadership of vote of confidence, re-electing is chair and vice-chair at the authority’s 66th annual general meeting held recently.

Haldimand County councillor John Metcalfe will continue in the role of chair while Stewart Beattie, a citizen representative from Hamilton will once again act as vice-chair. Metcalfe said he found the dedication of NPCA board members, staff, members of the NPCA Foundation “who work tirelessly to protect and enhance the Niagara Peninsula watershed” to be inspirational.

“(Last year) was a year of growth, partnerships, and remarkable achievements, all made possible through collaboration at every level,” Metcalfe said. “Moving forward, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to science-based conservation and responsible governance to ensure the long-term sustainability of our natural resources.”

Likewise, Beattie said he was honoured to be re-appointed.

“Our focus remains on innovation, collaboration, and service excellence,” he said. “We are committed to finding creative solutions to sustain and enhance NPCA’s vital programs, ensuring that our communities continue to benefit from healthy watersheds and thriving natural spaces.” 

Leilani Lee-Yates, chief administrative officer and secretary-treasurer for the authority, said she was honoured to have such a dedicated team to work with.

"Together, we will build on NPCA’s strong foundation, strengthen partnerships, enhance service delivery and ensure that our conservation efforts continue to make a lasting impact for communities across the Niagara Peninsula,” she said.

The next meeting for the Board of Directors is Friday, March 21 at 10 a.m. and meetings will continue to take place in a hybrid format. Meeting agendas, minutes, and links to the live stream, including videos of past meetings. are available on NPCA’s website
