Future of Santa Claus Parade still uncertain

Santa might not be coming to Thorold this year as the future of the Santa Claus Parade still looks uncertain.

Even though city hall officials are currently remaining tight-lipped on what is happening with this year’s parade, ThoroldToday has learned that a cancellation is looking more likely by the day.

“I’d say in terms of a parade it looks pretty well that it won’t (happen)," said a source close to the city administration.

Allegedly the city is holding off on announcing the cancellation while trying to secure alternative holiday programming.

In September the organizing committee of the Santa Claus Parade rang the alarm bell and said the parade was on the verge of being cancelled.

Last year, because of Covid-19, a festival of lights was held in stead of a parade.

No word yet if a festival of this kind will happen again this year.
