Local: Pop-up patios coming to Port Colborne

A pilot project in Port Colborne could lead to pop-up patios popping up across the city this summer. Mayor Bill Steele said rather than "reinvent the wheel," the city is borrowing a pop-up patio model used in the Muskoka region. "It will be neat this summer to see how this pilot project works out," said Steele, who noted that there are already two restaurants in the downtown core that will be applying for a pop-up patio licence.

 

Regional: Public Information Centre for St. Paul Street West CNR Bridge Replacement

The Regional Municipality of Niagara (Niagara Region), and through their consultant Associated Engineering (Ont.) Ltd., is initiating a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for the Replacement of the St. Paul Street West CNR Bridge, in the City of St. Catharines. As part of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process, alternative solutions have been developed and assessed including: do nothing; replace bridge as per existing conditions; and replace bridge and include bike lanes and sidewalks. Based on the preferred alternative solution, alternative designs for the bridge replacement will be developed and assessed which will include a conceptual review of construction approaches such as partial-closure with staging or full-closure with detouring. Provincial: Dutch Reach Private Members Bill Introduced by Share the Road

On March 25, Share the Road was at Queen's Park in support of a private members bill being introduced by MPP Marit Stiles. The bill is a proposed amendment to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) to require that the Dutch Reach method be included in driver’s education manuals, programs and testing in Ontario.
