It’s a bad time for local business, as two long-time Thorold staples have decided to close up shop.
A few weeks ago, Karma Kameleon Gastropub in downtown Thorold permanently closed its doors and there are a lot of questions surrounding the abrupt shutdown.
The gastropub, located at 1 Front Street North, served up food and drinks to local residents for over a decade, but that story has now seemingly come to an end.
In photos taken by ThoroldToday last week, it is clear that the gastropub still has all of its furniture in place — but the space is completely deserted otherwise.
While the Facebook rumour mill is working in overdrive on why the owners decided to close up shop, there’s been no official statement.
ThoroldToday repeatedly reached out to owners William Brunyansky and Shannon Lindsay for comment but did not hear back.
Homestead Donuts on Pine Street South has also decided to shut down indefinitely.
In a message posted in the window of the donut shop, the business owners explain that “the decision was not made lightly.”
“We are deeply grateful for your loyal support and patronage over the years,” they write. “Your support has been the cornerstone of our success and we have cherished every moment of serving you.”
In response to a comment on the former Facebook page of the business, the owners wrote they “made the decision based on the economy and the extra competition.”
ThoroldToday tried contacting the owners of the donut shop for comment but was unable to reach them.
