LONDON – Friday’s scheduled game between Welland and London at Labatt Park was rained out. No make-up date has been announced.

It was shaping up as a battle between the first- and second-place teams in the IBL, with London (9-4) tied for second place 1.5 games back of Welland (11-3).

Cardinals move back over .500

HAMILTON – Hamilton moved back over .500 with a 7-3 win over Toronto Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Tanner Rempel doubled three times and drove in four for the Cardinals (8-7). Josh Niles had a pair of sacrifice flies, and Dennis Dei Baning went 3-for-3 and scored twice.

Cards’ starting pitcher Brett Lawson improved to 2-1 with six innings of one-run ball. He scattered five hits, walked two and fanned four.

Justin Marra and Lachlan Maude each had an RBI for Toronto (6-11). Marcus Knecht singled twice.

Leafs’ starter Wilgenis Alvarado (0-3) went 5.1 innings in the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Barnstormers erupt late to blow out Panthers

CHATHAM – A nine-run eighth inning blew open a close game and gave Chatham-Kent a 16-5 victory over Kitchener on Friday night at Fergie Jenkins Field.

Seth Strong hit his league-leading eighth home run and drove in two. Daniel Battel went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, Robert Mackie had two RBI on two hits, Spencer Marcus, Mitsuki Fukuda and Jalen Butcher each drove in two, while Lee Kucera, Anthony Polowick and Braxton Haggith all collected two hits and an RBI.

Brock Whitson (1-0) pitched five innings for the win. Two of the three runs he allowed were earned. He also scattered five hits and struck out four.

Sean Skorupski hit a solo home run for the Panthers (3-12). Raul Gonzalez, Justin Skorupski and Nolan Misa drove in the other runs.

Yadian Martinez (1-2) allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits over seven innings. He walked three and fanned nine.
