Local man facing assault charge after midnight skirmish in downtown Thorold

A Thorold resident is facing assault charges after a nighttime scuffle at Jaycee Centennial Park earlier this month.

An attentive ThoroldToday reader sent the following security footage, which captured the skirmish on camera.

When reached for comment, the NRPS released the following statement:

"On Saturday June 8, 2024, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers were called to the area of Albert Street West and Ekins Lane in the City of Thorold at approximately 3:10am following the report of an assault. When they arrived, they located an adult male with injuries.  He was transported to an out of region hospital for treatment of his injuries."

The resulting investigation by detectives revealed that the victim was assaulted by another male, who was identified and arrested a short distance away.

26-year-old Atreyu Godard of Thorold was charged with "assault with a weapon contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code."

Godard was held in custody prior to a bail hearing on Sunday June 9, 2024, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
