Niagara Health (NH) is warning the public about a scam using its name to try and steal personal information.

The telephone scam involves a caller claiming to be an NH staff member asking people for their name, social insurance number, date of birth and address.

Niagara Health does not call patients to confirm that type of information and would NEVER ask a patient for their SIN number over the phone. The only time Niagara Health asks for a SIN number is in a case involving the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and that is only done in-person.

When Niagara Health calls patients, the name and number will appear on call displays. But, we do not call and ask for that type of personal information.

Niagara Health has notified Niagara Regional Police about this scam. Anyone who receives a similar call is asked to call police at 905-688-4111.
