Niagara Health is proud to announce we have been recognized as one of the top employers in the Hamilton-Niagara region for the seventh consecutive year. This achievement reflects Niagara Health’s ongoing commitment to fostering a workplace where more than 7,500 staff, physicians, volunteers and patient partners are supported and empowered to thrive.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Team NH whose commitment to our patients and each other makes this achievement possible. Together, we continue to create an environment where everyone can make a meaningful impact,” says Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO of Niagara Health. “By supporting growth, collaboration, and well-being, our staff, physicians and leaders ensure we continue to be an employer of choice.”

Guerriero says this recognition celebrates Niagara Health’s ongoing dedication to growth and innovation. From the launch of the new Hospital Information System (HIS) to the construction underway for the South Niagara Hospital, Niagara Health is transforming how care is delivered in Niagara.

Embracing diversity

At Niagara Health, we are building a culture of inclusivity and respect, where everyone feels valued and heard. Fostering a sense of belonging is important at Niagara Health.

Our organization’s strength lies in our commitment to listening to diverse perspectives and continuously evolving to meet the unique needs of those we serve. Our team members come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and beliefs. Their experiences and expertise are integral to our ability to provide high-quality, safe care to all members of our community.

Promoting culturally safe environments

Niagara Health’s commitment to improving patient care is at the core of everything we do. The Indigenous Health Services and Reconciliation (IHSR) team prioritizes culturally respectful care to positively impact healthcare experiences and outcomes for Indigenous patients and their families. This team encourages inclusivity, equity and compassion throughout the organization, ensuring we don’t just identify priorities, we act on them.

Systemic change also requires us to listen and learn from the community. This was a key focus of our inaugural diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) conference, Transforming Care: DEI and Health Equity Knowledge Exchange.

The conference, held in early December, brought together more than 190 healthcare professionals and community leaders. We believe health equity is everyone’s responsibility, and we prioritize open conversations – even uncomfortable ones – to ensure all voices are heard and valued.

The South Niagara Hospital

Niagara Health continues to set new standards in healthcare. In 2024, the South Niagara Hospital Project achieved WELL Precertification, a significant achievement, recognizing the hospital is prioritizing the health and well-being of the people who will use the building. With opening planned for 2028, the project is on-track to be the first WELL Certified hospital in Canada.

Among a variety of wellness attributes, the hospital will feature increased access to natural daylight, a staff gym and team rooms, ergonomic workstations and outdoor walking paths, contributing to a more supportive and energizing work environment.

With fourteen gardens and terraces and easy access to nature, the building will offer a more positive work environment that promotes mental and physical wellness. This thoughtful design aims to enhance workplace satisfaction and will help attract and retain top healthcare professionals.

As we celebrate this remarkable achievement of being recognized as a Hamilton-Niagara Top Employer for the seventh consecutive year, we are reminded that the strength of Niagara Health lies in the collective dedication of our team members and partners.

“At Niagara Health, we are committed to creating a workplace where our people feel seen, supported and inspired to grow. By embracing diversity, innovation and well-being, we are building a culture that thrives on collaboration and mutual respect. This achievement reflects the collective effort of our teams to meet the needs of our patients and to make sure that every person in our organization has the opportunity to succeed,” says Fiona Peacefull, Executive Vice-President, Human Resources, Niagara Health.
