Niagara Region Waste Management staff will be available to provide information and answer questions on a variety of waste management programs, in addition to selling Blue/Grey Boxes, Green Bins and Kitchen Catchers.
Baker Road Wastewater Treatment Plant: Thursday, April 25, 1 p.m.*

Have you ever wondered what happens to the water from your shower, bath, laundry and toilet after it goes down the drain? Enjoy a one hour tour of the Grimsby Wastewater Treatment Plant to learn how infrastructure works to treat water and protect the environment. All participants must be 12 years of age or older and are required to sign a release form before participating in the tour.
Recycling Centre Tour: Friday, April 26, 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.*

Join Niagara Region and Niagara Recycling for a 45-minute guided tour of Niagara Region’s Recycling Centre. Learn first-hand about the machines, processes and people that sort, bale and ship your recyclables. Individuals must be 10 years of age or older and able to walk a flight of stairs to participate.
* For safety reasons, closed toed shoes with long pants are required. Tours are free of charge, reservations are required to participate and space is limited. Spaces can be reserved for the tour by calling the Region’s Waste Info-Line at 905-356-4141 or 1-800-594-5542 Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by emailing [email protected]
Shred Day: Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

In partnership with Niagara Recycling, Niagara Region will be offering shredding services to residents at Niagara Region’s Recycling Centre. Residents are encouraged to bring up to three boxes for shredding with a food or cash donation for a local charity ($4 per box after the first three). A box is considered to be no larger than a banker’s box, similar to a printer paper supply box (15 inches long, 10 inches deep and 12 inches across).
Only loose paper and paper with staples or small paper clips are accepted. Photographs, paper with metal clips or claws, plastic, book coils, greeting cards, hanging file folders, binders and duo-tangs are not allowed.
Please note: The Recycling Centre will only be open for shredding services this day. The office will remain closed and recycling containers will not be available for purchase.
Recycle Your Bicycle Drop-off Contest – Monday, April 22 – Saturday, April 27
Have an unwanted or damaged bicycle in need of repair? Niagara Region accepts bicycles year-round and provides them to the Broken Spoke Program at Port Colborne High School to be refurbished/repaired and donated to those in need.
Bring a used bicycle to one of the Region’s Waste and Recycling Drop-off Depots between April 22 and 27, and receive a ballot to enter a draw for a $50 Visa gift card.
