Nine-year-old boy killed in pickup truck rollover on QEW in Oakville

Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) Burlington Detachment are investigating a single vehicle rollover collision that occurred on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) westbound, approaching Burloak Drive in the Town of Oakville.   

On Monday, January 13, 2025, just after midnight, a pickup truck was travelling westbound on the QEW when it entered the ditch. The vehicle rolled before coming to rest upright. The driver, a 38-year-old from Hamilton was transported to hospital and remains there with serious injuries, a 9-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and transported to hospital without vital signs, he was pronounced deceased in hospital. Another 28-year-old passenger was not injured and remained at the scene.

Members of the HSD Traffic Support Unit are assisting with the investigation, the QEW westbound lanes were closed from Bronte Street for approximately six hours. The potential lack of seatbelt use is being investigated as a contributing factor in the collision.
