NRPS looking for witnesses in Thorold sexual assault investigation involving 12-year-old

Police think witnesses might have been in the area just minutes after the incident

Niagara’s police agency is continuing to investigate the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old minor in Thorold earlier this month.

Now NRPS are looking to speak to potential witnesses who might have passed through the neighbourhood just minutes after the incident, and released a map on Thursday outlining the are in question.

Detectives are asking anyone in the area, including businesses or vehicles, with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras, to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 6:45PM and 8:45PM on September 7, 2021.

According to a statement by police, a group of minors had been swimming in the area, and were walking on a nearby trail when an unknown male approached the group.

Officers including an NRPS K9 Unit flooded the area but were not able to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as:

• White male, 40–50-years-old

• Medium build with a ”belly”

• Grey / black “scruffy” facial hair

The suspect’s clothing is described as:

• Ball cap

• Grey or black shirt

• Baggy jeans

The 12-year-old victim was not physically injured.

The investigation has been assigned to detectives from the NRPS Child Abuse Unit.
