PSA: City's annual hydrant flushing program to begin May 1

The program runs every spring to ensure all hydrants operate correctly and to help maintain good water quality

NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF THOROLD
*************************
On Monday, May 1 the City of Thorold’s fire hydrant flushing program will begin.

The program runs every spring to ensure all hydrants operate correctly and to help maintain good water quality.

The city is divided into three areas in which City staff conduct hydrant maintenance. Crews will begin with the Decew System Area and the South End System Area on May 1, and will move on to the Port Robinson Area after they are complete. See attached maps for more details.

What happens?

City crews will turn hydrants on to circulate water in city water mains. This may cause minor changes to the water consistency and pressure. This issue should be resolved by running cold water for a few minutes until the pressure returns to normal.

What day/time does hydrant flushing take place?

The City’s crews operate from Monday to Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

What happens if my water doesn’t return to normal?

If the water does not return to normal after a thorough tap flush (approximately 10 minutes), residents are asked to call our Public Works Department at 905-227-6613 x266 for assistance.

How can residents stay updated?
