Issued at 2024-01-13 20:43 UTC by Environment Canada:
Snow squall warning replaces snow squall watch for:
Niagara Falls - Welland - Southern Niagara Region, Ont.
St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region, Ont.

Current details:
Multi-day lake effect snow squall event expected beginning tonight.

Hazards:
Locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 15 to 25 cm by Monday evening.
Peak snowfall rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour.
Significantly reduced visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Timing:
Tonight through at least Monday evening with some breaks in the squalls due to shifting winds.

Discussion:
Lake effect snow squalls begin tonight and will continue through at least Monday as strong southwesterly winds bring much cooler air to the region.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
