Safety Tip of the Week

As we gather to express gratitude and enjoy delicious feasts, let’s also ensure our safety.

When using your stove, here are some important tips:

- Ventilate your kitchen by turning on the exhaust fan or opening a window before you start cooking.
- Stay attentive! An unattended stovetop can lead to accidents.
- Keep the stovetop surroundings free from flammable items.

Health Canada advises against fueling firepots using rubbing alcohol. It can lead to serious fire and burn risks from flame jetting.

When fueling firepots:

- never pour fuel over an open flame
- only use fuel in a container with a flame arrestor (a flame arrestor looks like a screen built into the container opening)
- choose a non-refillable gel fuel canister for firepots as a safer alternative
