In a Welland courtroom on Friday, Dec. 1, legal counsel Tessa Willebrand appeared in court virtually as agent for Steven Soos’ lawyer, Andrew Burton.
Soos, a Welland resident and former candidate for various elective offices, has been in the news the past few years as a social advocate for those suffering from mental health issues, addiction, and homelessness.
It was the third time Soos’ case had been before the court since he was arrested by Niagara Regional Police on August 17, charged with two counts of mischief.
Willebrand said that the defense has arranged a Crown pre-trial meeting for December 13, and requested an adjournment to December 15 at 9 AM, which was granted.
In a prior email message to PelhamToday, Soos said that, “I have instructed my lawyer to enter a plea of not guilty, and to also file an application for change of venue. I am also considering filing either a human rights complaint on the NRPS for the treatment I received when assaulted in custody, or a civil suit that will cover negligent investigation, malicious prosecution, unlawful detainment, and breach of my charter rights. I will continue to defend my good name.”
