The historic Decou House, the Keefer Mansion, the Peace Monument, and of course, the Canal…
Eight of Thorold’s most meaningful—and captivating—sites have been captured and converted into postcards. Created by Print Three, the picturesque packages are now on sale on Front Street.
Sets of eight post cards cost $7 plus tax, and are available at Henderson’s Pharmasave, Figg Street Co., and A Yellow Flower Basket, all located on Front Street.
Thorold tourism agent Sue Morin told the Thorold News that she was getting “more and more requests at Lock 7 for Thorold items from locals and travellers,” so she designed a pilot project to complement existing businesses, whose owners jumped on board, selling items sporting the Thorold moniker.
For a couple months now, Thorold souvenir men’s and ladies T-shirts and ball caps have been on sale at Henderson’s, and ladies’ T-shirts and caps at The Post Office.
Impact Promotions is printing the T-shirts, which come in charcoal grey for ladies and a lighter shade of grey for men. Ball caps cost $19, T-shirts $25.
The T-shirts were designed to appeal to Thoroldites, as well as to the throngs who stop to sightsee at the Canal. The front bears a boat, with Thorold’s slogan: “Where ships climb the mountain.” On the back is a “Welland Canal certified boat nerd” logo, and the words, “Thorold, Ontario.”
A Yellow Flower Basket sells small stuffed animals embroidered with “Thorold, Canada,” and Da Bomb Bath Bakery carries custom Thorold soaps.
The tourism office was displaying the items at the Lock 7 Tourist Information Centre throughout the busy summer months, said Morin, “but not selling them there. We are not there to compete with retail. We are there to drive business downtown.”
The Tourist Information Centre has closed for the season, but will return next year with interactive “mystery history” and mapped tours, along with other surprises.
