Thorold Public Library shifts to curbside/appointment-only model due to pandemic restrictions

'We need to only have a certain percent capacity. This allows to still offer our in-person services but have more of an eye on who is coming and going,' explains the chief librarian

Want to go to the library? As of this week you will have to make an appointment.

With new pandemic restrictions the Thorold Public Library has made the decision to shift to a curbside/appointment-only model.

“This is kind of our in-between state before going to full curbside. We’ve gone really back and forth throughout the two years, following closely with the regulations with what we were allowed to offer and trying to provide options for all of our patrons,” says chief librarian Rebecca Lazarenko.

Patrons are able to order materials online and pick them up curbside, but if they prefer to browse or use a computer they will have to call the library to book an appointment.

“We need to only have a certain percent capacity. This allows us to still offer our in-person services but (we) have more of an eye on who is coming and going,” explains Lazarenko.

As for the library’s programming, all events and book clubs are still ongoing but have moved online.

Says Lazarenko, “We had to do this a few times throughout the last couple of years, so basically our patrons know the drill by now.”

If you would like to book an appointment you can call the library at 905-227-2581.
