The Thorold Senior Citizens Association is putting on their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 18.

“We’re having a big bazaar,” explains the association’s president Brenda Bator, in an interview with ThoroldToday. “We open at 9 and we’re here until 1. It might be a little later this year because we’ve gotten a lot of extra stuff given to us this year.”

Because of the amount of stuff for sale, the bazaar will completely take over both floors of the Thorold Seniors’ Centre on Carleton Street.

“[We’ll have] all kinds of Christmas stuff and then we have a mini flea market or garage sale,” says Bator. “We’ll have a lottery table, we have a penny sale, and that’s even bigger and better because each item on the table has a gift card that goes with it.”

The bazaar will also coincide with this week’s Affordable Produce Pop-Up Market that the association has been organizing since the summer.

“It has been a joy to have that,” Bator says. “We have done so good this year. It started off a little slow and then it got bigger and bigger. That really has helped us just help the community.”

To keep momentum going, the Thorold Senior Citizens Association is trying to engage the local community any way they can.

“This year we joined up with James Symons for Toolbox Niagara so we are collecting clothes for the homeless here,” says Bator. “We also collect food for Community Care. We’re really getting involved and we’re really excited about all that.”

The association’s stacked events calendar has led to an increased interest in whatever is happening at the Thorold Seniors’ Centre, says Bator.

“We are even having trouble with our parking lot because there are so many people,” she says. “It’s been phenomenal for us. We are really moving and shaking. There’s also more and more people renting space from us. We’re doing really, really well. We’re really happy.”

The Christmas Bazaar will take place at the Thorold Seniors’ Centre on Carleton Street between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18.
