Thorold Fire and Emergency services are hoping to cut as much as 3 minutes of their response times to various districts after a land deal was struck for a new station.
The deal has been up in the air some time but the decision to buy the property was reached at Tuesday nights council meeting.
The new station will be built on the corner of Collier Road and McCleary drive.
“It is the place where the new fire station needs to be,” said fire chief Terry Dixon to Thorold News.
The new station will function as both new headquarters and emergency operations center for the city, where officials can meet to discuss ongoing situations.
Dixon would not disclose the final price of the land but said early projections point to the new station being up and running in 2023.
The department is currently seeking grants from the federal and provincial governments.
Thorold Fire has three stations currently; in Port Robinson, Thorold South, and along Highway 20.
They will all continue to operate even after the new station is completed.
