In honour of National Truth and Reconciliation Day, the City of Thorold will be hosting a flag raising ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday, September 29.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day takes places on Thursday, September 30 to coincide with Orange Shirt Day. City Hall will be closed on that day, which is why the ceremony is held the day before.

The federal statutory holiday was conceived to honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. This years marks the first year Reconciliation Day will be observed.

Michele-Elise Burnett, who is the president of Kakekalanicks and artistic director of Celebration of Nations, will be a guest speaker at the flag raising ceremony at City Hall.

The event starts at 1:30pm and social distancing and mask policies will be in effect.
