We don’t want anyone to panic but, and this is for real, there is a three-headed monster heading toward Thorold.
The monster was here once before and it’s coming back.
In fact, it’s the Three Headed Monster Rock and Roll Circus, scheduled to arrive on Saturday, April 27.
Organizer and drummer for Marty Allen, Mike McDowell told ThoroldNews the unique event is making a return entirely through popular demand.
“We tried this in 2017 without planning to do another one but it went so well that people began asking, 'When are you doing this again?' The bands all wanted to do it because they were getting asked as well,” he said.
What it is, is three local rock and roll bands appearing on stage at the same time.
“The three bands, Marty Allen and the Cadillac Cowboys, Vertigo, and the Stickman Band.” said McDowell. “We’ve got all three bands on stage at once. Each band plays one song after another - that’s the circus aspect. The feedback from last time was crazy how much people liked it.”
In fact, he said, “The majority of the people who came last time liked the format. If you don’t like one band, wait five minutes and another band will be on.”
He added, “We’ll open and close the show together, so all 11 guys will be playing at once. And the show is going to be three sets, two at 1-1/2 hours, and the last one, one hour.”
McDowell said there will be some audience influence on the show. “We want people to submit song ideas for the jams. And if it becomes an established event we can begin to use it as a fundraiser.”
For the musicians, getting out of the bars is incentive, as Mike said.
“For these bands, it’s a chance to play with good production, lights and sound; we’re all tired of playing in the corner in the dark.”
He stressed that anybody who wants to see a good show is invited.
“A lot of musicians showed up last time,” he noted.
In 2017 the show was at the Belvedere Club but it ended up being too small for the anticipated crowd this time.
“Last time, all the tickets sold during the final three weeks and it was sold out by show time,” said McDowell.
He recounted, “It’s going to be a lot of fun. We had three bands who didn’t really know each other, but now we’ve become kind of a family and there’s a cool vibe when we get together. We want people to come out, enjoy themselves and inspire us to do it again.”
Admission costs $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Tickets available at Mike's Music, Pine Plaza, Thorold.
Start time is 7:30, doors open at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at Holy Rosary Hall.
