Sunday will be a Super Bowl to remember for the residents of several shelters in the region. For a second year in a row, Toolbox Niagara organized a mini-campaign to collect snacks for the shelters to hand out during the game.

“With the shelter, their focus is on food for the residents,” said the organization’s founder, James Symons, in a recent interview with ThoroldToday. “They don’t necessarily have a budget for snacks or extras.”

The snack drive, which took place this week at Boldt Realty in St. Catharines, collected enough snacks for three shelters to hand out during the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Now, Toolbox Niagara will be gearing up for the Coldest Night of the Year on February 22.

“We’re looking for people to join our team,” said Symons. “The walk is in downtown St. Catharines at the Market Square. It's a cold night but it's a fun night. We have lots of food after. We walk together, meet other teams, to help support Start me Up Niagara. It’s their big fundraiser of the year.”
