Community Care Thorold and the Thorold Community Activities Group are each receiving $5,000 to support their initiatives and programs from Northland Power through its Thorold Co-Generating Station.

With a motto of Do What is right, a news release from Northand says the company is acting “with integrity and respect to ensure a sustainable future for our people, our communities, and our planet,” illustrating their commitment to giving back to their local community.

“This gift will ensure that vital community services start off 2025 in a stronger, more resilient position,” says the news release.

Maxine Hutchings, manager of Community Care St. Catharines & Thorold, a nonprofit organization providing integrated programs ranging from food and shelter security to emergency services and supports, expressed gratitude for the donation. “We are thankful Community Care was chosen as one of the recipients of the generous donation of $5,000,” she says.

The Thorold Community Activities Group, which offers recreation programs and community services, also welcomed the donation. Executive director Megan Gilchrist highlighted the importance of the support. “Many small nonprofits are experiencing decreased donations this year, with everything from cost of living increases and the recent postal strike resulting in a more challenging year-end," she says. "This contribution will help us to continue to provide community services, food security initiatives, and safe recreation and sport programming for children and youth into the new year and beyond. We are so thankful for the generosity of Northland Power, and for their investment in our Thorold community!”

Northland is a power producer dedicated to developing, building, owning, and operating clean and green global power infrastructure assets in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America, says the news release. Its facilities produce electricity from clean-burning natural gas and renewable resources such as wind and solar.

With a long track record of more than 35 years in business, Northland Power is committed to sustainability and community investment. The Thorold Co-Generating Station, located in Allanburg, has been a key contributor to the local energy infrastructure since it began operations in 2010.

“This donation underscores Northland Power’s commitment to supporting local communities and fostering initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents in the areas where it operates,” the news release says.
