One patron from Toronto asked why he had to come to Thorold to enjoy such world-class entertainment as he entered Holy Rosary Hall last evening.
He wasn’t alone as comments by numerous arrivals from across Ontario and Western New York supported the notion that this city is proving to be a music tourism destination.
Last night blues fans descended upon Thorold to attend the third appearance by the Vanessa Collier band in the past six months. And once again, she delighted fans with her outstanding saxophone and vocal performance, eliciting a number of spontaneous standing ovations.
The 28-year-old Berklee College of Music graduate has been gaining career steam, enjoying several Blues Music Award nominations and garnering a legion of new fans. After serving a short internship with the legendary Joe Louis Walker, Collier assembled her own stellar band. She has certainly become a fan favourite in this city.
Thorold was the final leg of this tour before she heads home to Philadelphia. Known for her boundless energy, talent and passion, the young musician showed no signs of fatigue. Her sincere fan appreciation was apparent and reciprocated as they lined up for t-shirts, CDs and autographs during a break and after the show.
After the show, Facebook posts referring to the event included Judy Tucker's, which said, "Absolutely amazing show, tonight."
Carla Rienza added, "A brilliant, massively entertaining world-class performance! A privilege to be there. Thank you, Thorold, for continuing to bring the best blues to the Niagara region."

The young star is rising fast and, while they clearly appreciate the opportunity, fans are wondering just how long they will be able to enjoy Collier’s talent in such an intimate venue.
