Downtown residents looking to hop on the Welland Canals Parkway this week are out of luck.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation has closed the section of the parkway, between Lock 7 and Glendale Avenue in St. Catharines. Thorold City Hall reports that the railway bridge next to Lock 7 will be closed "to vehicle and pedestrian traffic in both north and south directions to accommodate heavy equipment."
The closure is in effect 24 hours a day from 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 to 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Following the four-day full closure, single lane restrictions will resume as follows:
- Welland Canals Parkway in the vicinity of Bridge 6 will be limited to one lane to accommodate heavy equipment
- Lane restriction in effect 24 hours from February 23, 2025 – February 28, 2025
- Vehicles can pass northbound and southbound in turns according to traffic control indicators
"Work timelines are subject to change due to weather and other considerations," writes City Hall.
